Let's circle back. Low-hanging fruit. Open the kimono? Use at your own risk
The problem

Plain English went corporate, and never quite came back.

People do not really talk at work anymore. They align, they ideate, they socialize the deck. It all sounds productive and explains nothing. This is the guide to what those phrases are quietly saying.

How each entry works

Two pages per buzzword.
What it means, and what it really means.

A few that land too close

Read these extracts. Sound familiar?

Ball is in your court
The promotion is always one 80-slide deck away.
Comic: a man asks a doctor to cut a nine-month pregnancy down to three months with a quick win solution
Quick win
Some things do not move faster just because the deadline did.
Comic: the boss wants to address the elephant in the room, and an actual elephant appears
Elephant in the room
Everyone sees it. Nobody names it. Then someone mentions the $8,000 dinner.

The Manager, dark hair in a bun, purple blazer, unimpressed expression
Holds it all together

The Manager

The Analyst, young, wide-eyed, light blue shirt, a single bead of sweat
Runs on caffeine

The Analyst

Business Analyst, junior multitasker, 26

The wider office cast standing together as a group
And the supporting cast

Everyone else in the meeting

Not quite the main characters, but always in the mix. Nodding through meetings they don't follow, living off drawer snacks, and keeping things moving while other people take the credit.

Buying for the whole team?

Offsites, leaving gifts, the secret santa you forgot about until this morning. We do bulk orders from 15 copies, and the per-copy price drops as the order grows.

Ask about bulk orders
Before you ask

The questions we actually get.

Is this the same Consulting Comedy from Instagram?

Yes. Same people, same meetings, same material. The book is the part that would not fit in a caption.

Is there a paperback or an ebook?

No. One format, on purpose. It is a full-colour comic book, and it is meant to sit on a desk where people pick it up. A paperback would sag and an ebook would kill the joke.

Where does it ship?

Worldwide. Each copy is printed to order and shipped through the usual book retailers, or directly from us. Delivery time depends on where you are and where you order from.

Should I buy on Amazon or directly from us?

Either works. Amazon is usually the fastest, with its normal delivery options in the countries where it sells the book.

In the US, UK and Australia, buying directly from us costs 25% less than the cover price. Stores keep a large share of every sale, so when you buy direct, more of your money goes to the people who made the book, and we pass part of that on to you. The trade-off is time. Each direct copy is printed when you order it and shipped to you individually, so allow one to two weeks, and shipping is added at checkout.

Everywhere else, we send you to the nearest Amazon store that ships to your country, with delivery and any import costs shown at checkout.

How long does delivery take?

Each copy is printed when you order it, so allow a few days on top of normal shipping. It is worth the wait and it means no copy sits in a warehouse.

Can I get copies for my team?

Yes, from 15 copies upward. Use the bulk order link above and tell us how many and where.

Consulting Comedy Who's behind this

Made by Consulting Comedy.

More than a million people follow Consulting Comedy, and every one of them has sat through the same meeting. We don't make corporate life funny. It already is. We just find the satire underneath, say it out loud, and make the whole thing a little more bearable. Speak Like a Leader is our first comic book, published under Odd Pigeon Press.

The author's name is not on the cover. That part was on purpose.

The book was never about who wrote it. It is about the brilliant, absurd, wildly contagious things people say at work every day without stopping to wonder what any of it actually means.
